How age is calculated precisely
Calculating age sounds trivial until you try to do it by hand across different month lengths and leap years. This calculator works by comparing your date of birth to today's date (or any target date you choose) and counting whole years, then whole months within the remaining time, then the leftover days — the same way you'd count if you carefully worked through a calendar by hand, just automated.
The trickiest part is borrowing across months when the day-of-month of your birth date is later than the day-of-month of the target date — for example, calculating the age of someone born on the 28th when today is the 5th. The calculator handles this the same way a manual calendar count would: it borrows a month, adds the correct number of days for the previous calendar month (which varies between 28 and 31 depending on the month, and accounts for leap years in February), and continues. This is why age calculators that just divide total days by 365.25 can be off by a day or two around birthdays — this tool avoids that shortcut.
Beyond the years/months/days breakdown, the calculator also shows your total days and weeks lived, which people often want for milestone celebrations (10,000 days old, for instance), and a live countdown to your next birthday.
